Which Beach Is Better?

Later this month, my friends are having a beach day. We are debating between going to Jones Beach and Rye Beach. Can someone give me the pros and cons of each? I have heard Rye Beach is small, but how small? Is the ocean even active there? I like for there to be at least decent waves. Nothing crazy, but just some normal beach scenery! Thanks =]
