Can tests for Candida be a false negative?

Some time ago, I had tests for Candida and urinary tract infection and both showed negative despite symptoms, which to me and according to the doctor seem classic to Candida. Although for whatever reason I did not ask then-is it possible to be a false negative? Thank you in advance.
